Youth Ministry

Emmanuel offers an extensive children’s and youth ministry programme, co-ordinated and overseen by the Church’s Youth Worker, Wanda Barnard. Please note that, currently, Wanda is on sabbatical leave until partway through August. Jasmine Jones, contactable through the Church Office, is deputising for Wanda in certain areas of ministry

Why We Are Here

The Church is committed to providing as much practical and spiritual help as it can in order to help prepare the children and young people in its care for their future lives and careers. A mixture of spiritual and fun activity-based recreational activities feature in the programme, and young people have every opportunity to commit themselves to becoming dedicated followers of Jesus Christ. Having already, in 2014, sent a youth team to Mexico to build homes for local people, in spring 2016 another group of young people from the Church plan to travel there for two weeks in order to do the same again.

The Mission

The challenge facing the Church is to create an environment into which children and young people are glad to come. We certainly aim to make church enjoyable for them. Our prayer is that, with God’s help, they will see relevant Christianity modelled by adults who live in the real world, but who are wholly dedicated to Jesus Christ. Only when our current children and young people make their own heart-felt decisions to be Christ’s disciples will the future of this, and other churches, be secure for the decades to come.

In 2012, the Church was greatly encouraged to win the “Youth Work” award as “Best Youth Worker Employer”, receiving an award presented by the Archbishop of York. In 2014, our Youth Worker, Wanda Barnard, was runner-up in the Best UK Youth Worker award.
